Description
This historic Springfield restaurant is open for business and is currently for sale! Pappy's Place BBQ has been feeding hungry folks since 1971, and the building has a delicious backstory. Built in 1903, it served the neighborhood as Frank Plummer's Grocery Store and later a shoe repair business. George & Mary Bills opened a cafe here in 1926 and purchased the city's first beer-by-the-drink license after prohibition. It's the oldest continuously operating restaurant in Springfield and still has the coldest beer in town. The current owners have replaced the main floor, all appliances except the fryer and oven/stove, added a security system, a partially covered patio and stage, plus new outdoor furniture for the courtyard. The housing for the smoker and the grease trap are new, but the recipes are old-school original. The property includes the adjacent house which has no kitchen or bathroom and is currently used as storage. Property includes the courtyard area and the back parking area all the way to the alley. It also includes food and beverage inventory.
